Miami to Host the 2017 MLB All-Star Game
This has been an exciting week for the city of Miami with the announcement of Major League Baseball’s plans to host its 2017 MLB All-Star Game in South Florida. The event’s pending arrival at Marlins Park marks an exciting opportunity for the relatively new stadium to host the Mid-Summer Classic in what will be only the stadium’s sixth season. Marlins Park is a brightly colored and lively ballfield that carries the unique cross-cultural flair and passion of Miami in its design and general atmosphere.
As with the stadium, the Marlins are a fairly young franchise, with only the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Rays having spent less time as Major League Baseball teams. With so few years under the franchise’s collective belt, it’s remarkable the Marlins have already enjoyed two World Series Championships. Considering the amount of baseball excitement this city has gotten to enjoy over the past twelve years, it feels like an absolute blessing to earn the 2017 MLB All-Star Game.
Whether or not we are spoiled, we can definitively say that we’ve enjoyed victories, new beginnings and humbling recognition and selection in our short history as an MLB city. So, is it too soon to declare Miami, Florida an official baseball destination? Possibly, but it will certainly be a viable conversation come 2017.
